Textbook:           Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 Complete Concepts and Techniques, Shelly, Cashman, Sebok, Course Technology.

Other required materials:      Zip Disk, CD or two 3 ½” disks

 

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce the student to various means of presenting information through the use of presentation software including Microsoft PowerPoint.  The student will also learn the fundamentals of oral presentations and basic design concepts.

 

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

1.      Demonstrate the fundamentals of PowerPoint 2002.

2.      Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of designing presentations, including outlining, inserting clip art, and OLE.

3.      Demonstrate a knowledge base of Microsoft PowerPoint 2002.

4.      Create and present two PowerPoint 2002 presentation.

 

Course Organization:  This is an online class.  The student should check this class on blackboard twice weekly for new announcements/assignments. The student is expected to complete assignments by the dates listed on blackboard.  This may require the student to utilize the open computer labs on campus, if they don't have access to a computer with Office XP.  Students may be asked to complete group projects during the course of the semester. 

 

Course Requirements and Evaluation Methodology:

 

Class Meetings:

 

Students will be required to meet two times during the semester at times to be specified later. The first will be a mid term exam and a presentation and the second time will be the final exam and a presentation.

 

Class Participation and Behavior: Class participation is a vital part of the learning environment. Students are expected to participate in discussions on blackboard discussion board, answer questions and offer input.  

 

Exams: The exams may consist of hands-on, true/false, multiple choice, short answer, problems, or essay.   You may access your grades on blackboard at any time. Final grades are mailed out by the registrar’s office; do not call the college or the instructor for your grades.  The instructor reserves the right to deviate from the test format throughout the semester.

Assignments: Assignments must be submitted on blackboard, using the digital drop box by the date listed. Any assignment turned in late will be assessed a 10% penalty.   If the assignment is not turned in the student will be given a 0 for that assignment. 

Student Assessment:

  1. Assignments (100 points)
  2. Reaction Paper (100 points)
  3. Written exams (given at checkpoints) (100 points each)
  4. Two PowerPoint 2002 presentation (200 points each)*

*Any late assignments will be assessed a 10% penalty.

Grading Scale:

               100%-90%=A

                      89%-80%=B

                      79%-79%=C

                      69%-60%=D
                     Below 60%=F
