NURSING DEPARTMENT ADMISSION

 

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

 

  1. All inquiries names will be placed on an applicant list upon return of your application by the set deadline to Dana Clay, Administrative Assistant to Nursing and Respiratory Care Programs, located in the Joe R. Martin Health/Science building HE 107-A. The application is two pages in length with an additional checklist page that must be complete when turned in to be time and date stamped.

  2. Notification of Nursing Entrance Test dates by Dana Clay. There is a $30.00 fee for this test.  FYI: To purchase a study guide for the Nursing Entrance Test (Called TEAS) see www.atitesting.com for information.  This is the testing organization that BRTC uses for our NET exams.  Black River Technical College also has a free study system in our Plato lab.  Please contact Kim Adams, at ext. 4159, about setting up your Plato lab account.

  3. Meet & Greet:  This is for you and your "support group", i.e. spouse, parents, kids, friends, etc. This will be held the semester before program begins; each applicant on Ms. Clay's list will be given information regarding this event via e-mail.  Please check weekly!

  4. Letters will be sent for acceptance, alternate, or denial.

The Practical Nursing Program holds an orientation before regular classes begin each semester.  All students that are selected must attend. 

These procedures are begun as soon as a class is accepted.  Applications are due by October 31st for Spring (January) class and April 1st for Fall (August) class. If either date falls on a weekend the following Monday will be the deadline.

All inquires have the opportunity to talk with school counselors and/or nursing personnel.

 

Prerequisites:     

                Human Growth and Development*

Human Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab*

Human Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab*

Basic Human Nutrition*

Introduction to Computer Concepts

Freshman English I

Math for Nurses**

*Must be taken within 5 years of applying to program.

 

**Intermediate Algebra or an Asset or ACT score for College Algebra must be obtained before being allowed to enroll in Math for Nurses. You will not be required to take Intermediate Algebra if you have scored high enough for placement into College Algebra.

 

While the PN program reserves the right to accept students for a Fall class that have not completed all required courses at the time of selection, it is recommended that you only lack 1 course to be completed during the summer sessions.  Any additional courses that are lacking greatly deduct (up to 15 points each) from your overall score at the time of selection.

Selection for the program is based on the following: Maximum points available 165

Top scores are accepted into the program, usually 24 students each time the program accepts but can be as high as 28 students, depending on current class size.
