Study
of router hardware and software. Topics include the OSI model, data
link and network layer devices, IP addresses, subnet masking, ARP,
RARP, cabling, topologies, wiring closets, basic electrical and
electronic issues in networks. TCP/IP transport-layer protocols,
flow control, IOS, router configuration, IP address configuration,
RIP and IGRP routing protocols, IP traffic filtering, router elements,
and routing problem solving. This course prepares the student to
continue on to Essentials of Networking II. After completion of
both courses, the student should be prepared to sit for the Cisco
Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam.
