The Discover Interest and Values Inventories are designed to allow the student to self-report in order to understand the work values that are important to them.
Work values can include anything from a strict 40-hour-work-week to the necessity of motivational opportunities.
Students sometimes choose careers that are in direct contrast to their value system.
DISCOVER gives the students the opportunity to understand the work values that are important to them and allows them the opportunity to make informed judgments about the career decisions in concordance with personal values.
When using this tool, it is important to point out inconsistencies in student career choice and work values and work with the student to identify problems that could develop from these inconsistencies.
It is also important to help the student identify possible solutions to these barriers.
